How to get help for postpartum anxiety

1 in 5 women experience postpartum anxiety (Farr et al, 2014). This is a longer-lasting, more severe form of anxiety that’s onset by the birth of a child.
Postpartum anxiety is very common. It is in no way an indicator of who you are or your ability to love and care for your child. Postpartum anxiety is a common complication of having a baby. You are not alone.
If you’re experiencing postpartum anxiety, catching the signs early and getting help will ensure you’re able to manage your symptoms and care for yourself and your child.
The signs and symptoms of postpartum anxiety can vary from woman to woman and can range from mild to severe. How often symptoms occur and how long they last will be different for every new mom.
Initially, the symptoms of postpartum anxiety may be mistaken for the baby blues. However, when symptoms are more intense, last longer, and begin to interfere with your ability to care for yourself or your child, you may benefit from getting expert care.
